Shri Yamuna Maharani
भजे कलिन्द नन्दिनीं दुरंत मोह भंजनीम्
Yamuna Maharani Temple stands at Vishram Ghat, the most sacred of Mathura's 25 ghats on the banks of the Yamuna river.
The temple is maintained by 12 ghar Aartiwale family, who have served as custodians of the Yamuna Aarti tradition at Vishram Ghat. The daily aarti performed here is one of the most well-known spiritual rituals in Mathura, drawing thousands of devotees and visitors throughout the year.

Significance of Vishram Ghat, Mathura

Vishram Ghat - Where Lord Krishna Rested
The name 'Vishram' means rest. According to Puranic tradition, this is the exact spot where Lord Shri Krishna sat down to rest and bathe in the Yamuna after his battle with and victory over the tyrant king Kansa.
Vishram Ghat is the central ghat of Mathura, with 12 ghats to its north and 12 to its south. It is the traditional starting and ending point of the Mathura Parikrama, the sacred circumambulation of the city's religious sites.

Why Attend Shri Yamuna Maharani's Aarti?
Shri Yamuna Maharani's aarti is not simply a prayer. It is a formal act of honoring Yamunaji as a living, sovereign deity.
Priests perform rhythmic Vedic chants while massive brass lamps with multiple tiers of flickering oil wicks are waved in synchronized circular motion. Thousands of small leaf-boats with diyas are released into the river.
The diya represents the devotee's prayer. Releasing it onto the water represents surrender: you give your prayer to the current and let the river carry it. You do not control where it goes. This act of letting go is the essence of bhakti.
